South Cantabrians are falling head over heels in an old Washdyke wool store.
The dream of Flip Out Timaru franchise owners Brendon and Bronwyn Chittock came to life on Friday as the doors to their new trampoline arena on Hilton Highway, near Washdyke Creek, opened for the first time.
Brendon Chittock said he never had a trampoline as a child but took kids to a similar venue in Dunedin in 2015 when inspiration struck.
“Everyone in Timaru is screaming out for more things to do and I just felt we could provide that sort of thing here,” Chittock said.
“I think a number of people were looking at it but we got in first and got it done.”
Already about 600 have been through Flip Out Timaru’s doors. Some were being turned away it was so busy.
Chittock said it would likely continue to draw big crowds over the school holidays.
The arena features numerous flat mats, wall trampolines, a pyramid trampoline and two 15-metre tumble strips for “endless tricks”.
After the trip to Dunedin, Chittock researched potential franchises to hook onto and settled on Flip Out, an Australian brand, which has also launched in the United Kingdom, United States, Philippines, Taiwan, Afghanistan, Malaysia and now New Zealand.
Timaru is the second place in NZ to get one after Rotorua, with Tauranga and Christchurch set to open soon. Each is customised to fit the building they are going into.
Chittock said it was awesome to be able to own a business that gave people so much joy.
“Seeing how many smiling faces we have had through so far and hearing all the positive comments, it’s really cool,” he said.
